Vernon Shopping

Bustling shoppers buzz the streets of Vernon like busy bees, hunting for bargains at malls, plazas, boutique shops, and brand name department stores. Exploring Vernon’s culture, mountains, greens, or farms may require a few extra purchases to make the trip a good old country time.

Boutique Shopping

Vernon’s main street is 30th Avenue, and that’s where all of the action is for sweet tooths, book worms, craft makers and music lovers. A small-town country welcome and warm country smile greets shoppers when they walk into one of Vernon’s many boutique stores. Coffee shops and eateries also provide sidewalk strollers with plenty of places to stop and take stock of their purchases.

A play day in Vernon can take quite a toll on both players and their equipment, and so it’s good to know where to find new gear. Daredevils who wipe out at the Polson Park skateboard park may require a trip to Canadian Tire for a new helmet or board. Kalamalka Provincial Park's rugged surroundings will test the endurance of both outdoor lovers and their hiking boots: a trip to Sears may be required before taking a trek in Kalamalka. Life on the beach is tough enough without having a broken MP3 Player, but that problem can be fixed at the Future Shop. Vernon’s Home Hardware has as Summer fishing gear and an ice-fishing shelter for anglers who fish Wood Lake between late November and early February.

Major Malls

It might be a wise idea to visit the Shopper’s Drug Mart in Polson Place Mall before heading out to the beach, ski-hill or campsite. Sun tan lotion, hand warmers and insect repellant will help to ensure that a day spent playing in Vernon is pleasant. The mall is located on Highway 6 and has a Canada Post outlet from which postcards and photos of fun times in Vernon can be mailed to friends and family. If a day indoors is preferred, Vernon’s Village Green Mall has the perfect medicine for itchy shoppers: over 68 stores including the Bay, Winners and Sport Chek. There’s plenty of territory to explore in the North Okanagan’s largest mall that is located north of Polson Place on 32nd Avenue.

Time in Vernon can pass like a galloping horse, but a trip to London Drugs in Vernon Square Mall can help to slow things down: digital photos of the Heritage street murals or from a hobby farm tour can be printed and framed. Comfortable shoes from the mall’s Sport Mart or Shoe Warehouse on 32nd Street will help keep feet protected when hiking the Grey Canal Historic Trail. Playing in Vernon requires lots of energy that can be replenished with a coffee from Starbucks or meal at Earls Restaurant in the Fruit Union Plaza that is on Highway 6.
