Kelowna's new multicultural event organizer, Choi's Choice Wine Consulting, is launching a series of culinary events to be held throughout the year: pairing different Asian cuisine with wines from Okanagan, BC wineries.

To kick off the series, Choi's Choice Wine Consulting is hosting a premier Gourmet Sushi and BC Wine Pairing Dinner on March 3rd, 2010. Nakmi Choi, originally from Korea, has been

Studying wine appreciation(she currently is under the WSET Diploma Course)and involved in the regions wine industry for several years and noticed the absence of good local wines in many of the excellent Asian restaurants. Almost a clich', Asian food was synonymous with traditional liquid accompaniments such as Sake, However Choi explains that this mould can be, and should be, broken.

"I've had the opportunity to learn a huge amount about the local wine scene, but I noticed an absence of Asian food promoting events in the valley. Wine is part of food culture, especially in the Okanagan Valley. But in terms of Asian food, there is a separation between the two. I am looking for opportunities to integrate them."

Choi's Choice Wine Consulting events will showcase the authentic and colourful culinary heritage at various Asian-focused events, blending traditional Asian cuisine with the diverse flavours and aromas of BC wines.

Special guests and Wine Educators will be on hand to explain the relationship between food and wines, and breaking through the stereotype of Asian food and wine pairing.

'Wine is a western culture while food plays a huge part in Eastern culture.' 'By bringing the two together' Choi adds 'I am hoping to create a new food culture'.

Tickets are $50 each and include a four course dinner, four wines, and all taxes. Gratuity extra.
